The essay-for-hire industry has been found to have English-speaking graduates from developing countries such as India and Kenya at its disposal. A good academic writer can make as much as $2000 per month — a healthy income in a developing nation. While cheating in colleges is not a novel phenomenon, the easy access to contract cheating and its industrial scale have far-reaching consequences. It compromises the credibility of millions of American graduates and organisations that may have recruited them. Contract cheating is illegal in 17 US states, but the law is rarely enforced.
