The Best Films of 2022
Tar
Set in the international world of Westerm classical music, the film centers on Lydia Tar. She is widely considered as one of the greatest living composer-conductors and first-ever female music director of a German orchestra. It is an unfolding thriller about a brilliant artist who's destroyed by her own appetites. So many of the people who sce "Tar" come away believing that Lydia Tar actually exists.
The Fabelmans
Spiclberg was right to wait this long to tell the story of his youth on film. He has made a vivid and well-structured biography that looks back in love and anger. The movie not only aches at memories of watching the slow-motion separation of his parents, but also tells teen tales of romance and prejudice. And we can feel Spielberg's enthusiasm in the medium he would revolutionize.
Turn Every Page
If Lizzic Gottlicb's documentary about Robert Caro and Robert Gottlicb were just a piece of good-old-days literary work, it wouldn't be the deep and satisfying movic it is. Robert Caro, who is an outstanding author of "The Power Broker", and Robert Gottlieb, the legendary editor who has guided all of Caro's books, emerge as stimulating giants. What unites them is their devotion to the civilizing glory of the word.
The Musical
The plot of the movie is about Evan, a New York kid suffering from his parents' divorcc. as he tries to absorb himself into small-town Indiana and stage a successful Coming-of-Age Day. The most important life lesson I've learned from running is to run at my own pace. This lesson has guided me in many ways. In particular, it made me challenge the fixed expectations of retirement and aging.
Running is a metaphor (隐喻) for life. I realized this while training for a marathon to celebrate my 60th birthday. All the other runners being faster than me made me embarrassed, but my coach shared some valuable advice: run at your own best pace — setting a goal or target time could be a limitation. He was right. Over time I ran more easily and faster. I also enjoyed the experience much more.
I have applied this principle to other areas of my life. Finding a rhythm is not about efficiency or how many things I can get done in a day. It has more to do with what I decide to do at this stage in my life. Running carries its own set of expectations, including what people at certain life stage should be doing or not doing. Expectations at my age can center on how leisure time is spent, decisions about employment, and even the role of a grandparent.
I used to think it was young people who bore the impact of peer pressure, but older adults can experience it too. This is ironic, because often later in this life
