The figure’s shape looks like the Chinese character “ 九 ”, representing the 9th Games, and “ 合 ”, representing unity and friendship. Through this emblem, Harbin extends a warm welcome and expresses hopes for shared growth among Asian countries. Mascots ( 吉祥物 ) The mascots for the Games, Binbin and Nini, are two lovable Siberian tigers. Binbin represents ice sports and wears ice skates, while Nini, representing snow sports, rides a snowboard. Their names — “Binbin” from “Harbin” and “Nini” from the Chinese word for “you” — come together to form a message: “Harbin welcomes you! ” These tiger mascots were inspired by two real tigers born in Harbin and represent values of strength, courage and positivity.
