Built by Ictinus and Callicrates, beginning in 447 BCE, this Doric icon is regarded as the most important surviving ancient Greek monument. The Great Wall, China Stretching over 21,000 kilometres, the Great Wall is one of humanity’s most ambitious architectural feats. Initially built during the 7th century BCE and expanded by later dynasties, it served as a military defence system against invasions.
